Planets would not get cold at all, the quantity of light reaching the planets would be the same as long as the sun's fusion reactions occurred at the same rate. There's also very little support for the "house of cards" idea, there is a lot of discussion about how universes with different fundamental constants might be just as capable of supporting life.
