The Train Crash That Exposed Japan’s Toxic Work Culture
A train in Japan was 1 minute behind schedule. For Japanese standards, this was more than acceptable. Having hurried too much, the train will now never make its destination.

Very cool simulations, but your discussion about what the universe would be like if the speed of light was slower was entirely incorrect. Of course, if we suddenly change our universe to have slower light, life on earth would have problems, but there is no reason life couldn't evolve in a "slow-light" universe. Planets would not get cold at all, the quantity of light reaching the planets would be the same as long as the sun's fusion reactions occurred at the same rate. There's also very little support for the "house of cards" idea, there is a lot of discussion about how universes with different fundamental constants might be just as capable of supporting life.

With the lightstrip turned off at the end, were the LEDs all turned off exactly 'at the same time' as we understand it or did you factor the, uh... Speed of light as the information coming through the strip to /tell/ each LED to turn off? If the latter, where did the 'turn off' signal first appear, at the bottom? That was a bit unclear for me, would love this additional information.

The passengers knocking at the window of the driver's cabin thought that they HAVE THE RIGHT to do so. That's the sad reality of Japan. People often see how polite they are to their customers but don't know how rude they could act when they ARE THE CUSTOMERS.

Photon does not have gravity(but is affected by curvature of space, thus only having space, but not actual gravity) or time, only space. We see photon wave traveling at the speed of light because that is limit of how relativity propagates trough spacetime. Photon travels only in space, not in time. First photon appeared in universe is still going in 1st second of its life.(but its actually 0 seconds to be precise) even though we are going now 13.9 billion years. We have gravity, we have time, we have space. Photon only has space.

The issues of contrasting cultures between the US and Japan was illustrated to me back in the 1980s when my brother worked as an executive for a Japanese auto maker. He worked in the US HQ for that company, where there was always several Japanese executives and other management staffers doing temporary duty at the US HQ. My brother recounted on several occasions of the Japanese staffers coming nearly to tears at their going-away parties; which meant they were returning to Japan. The reason why those staffers were in a distressed emotional state at the time? They wanted to stay in the US. Every one of them just loved the informality and the relaxed culture they experienced in the US; and having experienced that, were not looking forward to the highly structured and regimented work culture they were returning to.
